Purvis Young was born in Florida in 1943. After spending time in prison for armed robbery, he began painting while living homeless, under a highway underpass. Young is a highly collected Self-taught Folk artist. His work is in the collection of the Rockford Art Museum, Fayette Art Museum, Smithsonian American Art Museum and The House of Blues.
