Born in Baldwin, Louisiana in 1936. Adell, his wife, left him for another man after 19 years of marriage. He grew to believe he was the victim of universal female conspiracy.
Trained early in life as a sign painter, "Prophet" Royal Robertson continued creating visionary paintings, painted signs and drawings until he died. The imagery and writings often included the apocalypse, biblical interpretations and alien visitations. Robertson's work is in numerous galleries and collections, with exhibitions including The American Visionary Art Museum
